ceramic braces

Gone are the days when patients only had the choice of metal braces to correct an issue they had with their smile.
Today people looking to straighten misaligned or wrongly angled teeth have numerous options thanks to advances in modern dentistry and the industry continuing to introduce new product developments to the market in order to meet their patients’ healthcare needs and their cosmetic and lifestyle demands.

One of the most popular choices for our patients is the use of ceramic braces. While traditional metal braces remain highly effective methods of correction, we realise that they’re not the right choice for everyone.

For some, the suggestion of them needing to wear braces can be quite a daunting prospect, especially if they need to select a visible brace. The most common issue we hear at Keppel Dentistry is that patients are worried about how wearing a brace will make them look and feel, but we’re here to reassure them that there are options available and some, which are virtually invisible.

For patients who need discreet, yet visible dental treatment we recommend that they consider the use of ceramic braces.
Ceramic braces have been specifically designed to blend into natural teeth, rather than stand out, making them one of the more popular visible brace options.

More About Adult Orthodontic Braces

Clear ceramic braces are made of ceramic alloys and are available with two types of brace wires or ties to make them even more inconspicuous. The ties are made of either clear plastic or white metal and because of this their appearance is far subtler than traditional metal braces.

In addition to the visual benefits offered by ceramic braces users also don’t have to worry about staining from coffee, red wine or curry as the brackets have been designed to not discolour during usage and the ties are changed when every adjustment is made which is usually on a monthly basis.

Despite their strength, ceramic braces are also incredibly comfortable and offer a much more natural feeling than some alternative visible options.

As with every consultation at Keppel Dentistry, our team of highly trained experts will be able to offer advice on the best course of treatment to correct your dental issue as well as ensuring it fits in with your lifestyle.

At-home: The most common at-home method of teeth whitening involves having a cast of your teeth taken while you are at the dentists. This involves biting into a tray that is filled with dental putty. The dentist uses this mold to produce a clear plastic cover, or tray for your teeth into which you place whitening gel. The cover can be worn overnight for a period of a week or so until you’ve achieved the right shade for your teeth. Some gels can be used for shorter periods and will achieve the same results. Your dentist will be able to advise.

In-practice: In-practice bleaching procedures generally use a light-cured protective layer that is carefully painted on the gums and the tips of the gums between the teeth. The bleaching agent is hydrogen peroxide.

Light-accelerated bleaching: Power or light-accelerated bleaching uses light energy to accelerate the process of bleaching in a dental practice. Different types of energy can be used in this procedure, with the most common being halogen, LED or plasma arc. Most power teeth whitening treatments can be done in a single visit to the dentists which lasts less than an hour.
